Holding hands in public

 

What is the Islamic ruling regarding a married couple holding hands in public?

It is very important to understand that there is a great emphasis on ‘hayaa’ (modesty) in Islam. Such as the emphasis that many Ahadeeth of our beloved Prophet (Peace be upon him) have actually equated it with Imaan itself.

In light of the above, it is not appropriate for a Muslim couple to hold hands in public as it goes against the grain of Islamic modesty and shame. In privacy the have all the permission to express their love towards to each other in explicit and open ways.
