Nail Polish

Nail Polish

What are the fardh (obligatory) acts of ghusl (bath)? Many girls and women apply nail-polish. Will this in any way hinder the validity of ghusl?

A. The three fardh (obligatory) acts of ghusl are :

a) to gargle the mouth in such a way that the water reaches everywhere inside the mouth.

b) to enter water in the nose upto the soft bone.

c) to flow water all over the body in such a way that the water reaches every part of the body.

The ghusl is incomplete and invalid without them. If any part of the body, even to the extent of a hairs breadth, is left dry, the ghusl will be incomplete. Nail-polish will have to be removed to complete the ghusl. With the nail-polish, the water cannot reach the nails, therefore the ghusl will not be valid and she will remain impure.
