Length of Beard

Length of Beard

Is it permitted or prohibited to wear the beard to more than the length of the fist?

It is necessary to wear it to the length of a fist but it is against the Sunnah practice to wear it, too much longer. Imam Muhammad’s (R.A) report as regards the growing of beard is that Hazart Imam Abu Hanifa (R.A.) said: “Let the beard grow till it may become dense and longer and to trim it is an act of sunnah, and the tradition method of trimming it is this that one may take it in fist and whatever does out of the fist should be trimmed.

The fact is that the wearing of a beard is an act of Sunnah. A full-grown beard is a perfect decoration and a source of handsomeness for a believer, but its inordinate length too is against the Sunnah.
