Make every day a mother’s day

Make every day a mother’s day

On the second Sunday of March, many people celebrate Mother’s day by sending flowers and chocolates to their mother. Once a year, the mother is remembered and appreciated, but how condemning and disgraceful it is that the mother is ignored, abused, disobeyed and generously treated with content all throughout the rest of the year. Many mothers are dumped into old people’s residential homes where they are cared for and nursed by others, what a shame! And then, come mother’s day and the sons and daughters turn up with bunches of flowers and boxes of chocolates to show how kind and caring they are, what hypocrisy! According to the wonderful teachings of Islam, as set out in the beautiful verses of the Holy Qur’an and so majestically outlined by the beloved Prophet (Peace be upon him), each and every day should be Mother’s day. And how? No, not by chocolates and flowers! Is that all your mother is worth? The glorious Qur’an states:

‘Do not worship anyone except for Allah and be good to parents’. (Surah 17 verse 14)

‘And we ordered man to be good towards his parents. His mother bore him with pain and delivered him with pain. His bearing and weaning are in thirty months’.(Surah 46 verse 15)

The Holy prophet (Peace be upon him) is reported to have said:

‘Paradise lies at the feet of the mothers’. (Kanzul-Ummal)

In other words, those children who serve their mothers and keep them happy are entitled into Paradise. On the contrary, those who disobey and do not serve their mother will be deprived of Paradise. We have a lot to thank our mothers for. They have given birth to us, reared us and cared for us in our earliest life, continued to be a source of great help and love to us and always been there for us in our hour of need. How pathetic and wrong for us to then fix just one day to show a little appreciation when we are constantly in their hearts.

So, be obedient to your mother and love her like she loves you.

May Almighty Allah grant us all the right understanding, (Ameen.)
