On the gift of a child

Give the Adhaan & iqamah

When Muslim parents are blessed with a child, the child should first be made clean by proper bathing. After this the message of the oneness and greatness of Allah and the Prophethood of the Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) should reach the child by saying the Adhaan near the right ear and the Iqamah (takbeer) close to his left ear.

The Adhaan and Iqamah. The first sound to reach the child should be Allahu Akbar, glorifying Allah and calling the newborn to eternal success, devotion and prayer. A scholar or pious elder of the family should be asked to recite the Adhaan into the right ear and the Iqamah into the left ear of the newborn child. If no such person is at hand then any Muslim male may perform this Sunnah duty.
