Rajab

Rajab

Rajab is the seventh month in the Islamic lunar calendar. Me’raaj Me’raaj is the event in which the Prophet (Peace be upon him) was transported from Makka to Jerusalem and thereafter ascended into the celestial regions where he traversed the seven skies, met prophets and witnessed the remarkable signs of divine majesty. (Summarized: Al Bidayah wan Nehaayah)

¨ The Physical journey from Makka to Jerusalem is referred to as “Israa’a.”

¨ The physical journey from Jerusalem (Masjid Aqsa) to the heavens is known as “Me’raaj.” When did the Me’raaj occur?

Me’raaj took place after the journey of “Taaif” in the year 11th of Prophethood. With regards to the month of occurrence, the historians have five opinions… the well known view is 27th of Rajab. (Seeratul Mustafa/ Riyadhul Jannah Vol. 1 Part 2) The 27th of Rajab, the night of the Me’raaj, has been prey to ritual and celebrations, which have, once again, no basis in Islam. Salaat is the gift of Me’raaj. Many people celebrate Me’raaj by eating and drinking, and some even perform fixed amounts of Nafl Salaat, but how many of them perform their Fajr Salaat. When the gift of Me’raaj is Salaat than one should not remember Me’raaj five times a day by observing the obligatory Salaat. Does it make sense to attempt to please in a manner, which Allah himself is displeased with.
